Camino Schmid: Altitude - Distance - Speed

Isn't that a nice downhill ride!?

The easiest way to get the party started is that you either arrive by car to cercedilla or by train (“Cercanías C8 Line” trains from Madrid center). You might take then the C9 train from Cercedilla statin uphill to “Navacerrada” (there you have a live webcam). In winter it’s a ski resort (don’t expect Swiss Alps style or Aspen/Colorado). It’s a small ski area.
Due to this winter activity the C9 train unfortunately doesn’t allow bikers to use it because of Skiers. As far as we know December-March are the months you can’t use it. Now you’ve been warned! :)

The terrain of Camino Schmid is rather compact and easy to ride. Some sections require advanced riding skills due to roots or rocks you have to surpass.
In this trail we rode on the Camino Schmid continuing to “Fuenfria” and then took the wide road downhill. This section is pretty complex. Big, sharp rocks, roots in addition to be steep. So just follow the road downhill if you’re not that experienced. Really, you won’t enjoy it and we want you to have funnnn!

Once you’ve passed the steep, rocky downhill part you will reach a road that you can either follow or you can ride an old roman road “Camino romano”, which will shake you body like a polaroid picture! Passed this road follow any trail or road downhill and you’ll come straight back to Cercedilla train station.

You might be hungry by then so we recommend you to go into one of the cafetería bars to eat something.
Not from Spain? Try the Spanish Omelett “Tortilla de Patatas” ;)

The fun - Camino Schmid - starts here...

... Camino Schmid.

You'll find plenty of rocks blocking the trail. It's a safety measurement for hikers vs. bikers. Respect them ALWAYS!

The sandy ground is very dry and dusty in summer and humid and partly loose in winter.

A tricky section with rocks and gaps. Easy for more experienced riders.

mysingletrail camino schmid cercedilla madrid spain

Tricky section as you need to pass gaps between the rocks while a group of hikers might come towards you :)

This is where we follow the trail towards "Fuenfría". Both trails meet again on the other side of the hill.

Fuenfría meaning the cold fountain.

Follow the trail uphill...

We enjoyed in November this mysterious atmosphere with nobody else around there.

The highest point of the route. Now it's only downhill time. At this spot the "Camino de Santiago" passes as well.

You're about half way through... keep going downhill.

As you can see, we recommend this part only for advanced riders.

And the "roman road" almost at the end...
